Modern & Postwar Artists
Óscar Domínguez
1906 - 1957
The artistic career of Óscar Domínguez includes the evocation of his native land and the cultivation of Surrealist praxis.
Particularly interesting among the formulas employed by Domínguez in the context of Surrealism is his use of decalcomania and objects, the latter of which were also intensely produced by other artists, among them Max Ernst. He took up the Russian-invented technique of decalcomania in 1936, using gouache spread thinly on a sheet of paper or other surface (glass has been used), which is then pressed onto another surface such as a canvas.
